WPL 2023 1er partido: MI-W vs GG-W: MI venció a GG por 143 carreras; GG anotó solo 64 carreras

After a glittering opening ceremony at D Y Patil Stadium, Mumbai slated by Kiara Advani, Kriti Sanon, AP Dhillon, both the captains of Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants will head towards the Toss. First match, first toss, and the inaugural of the awaited series of Women’s Premier League will take the kick-off to start the match with enthusiasm. 

GG Captain Beth Mooney won the Toss and put Mumbai Indian to bat first. 



Harmanpreet Kaur: It's a special day for all of us, want to enjoy this moment. This is a good wicket to bat on, but there will be something in it for the bowlers as well. We have some young players who'll be featuring today and we're looking forward to seeing how they play. 

Beth Mooney: We will bowl. Looks pretty even with the grass, it's a hard and flat surface, plenty of runs here. Absolutely thrilled to be part of (WPL), a big crowd and I'm loving it. We have an entertaining group, we speak a lot about cricket. We have had the experience of playing in front of a big ground, we can pass it on to the younger members. Three seamers and four spinners in our playing XI today, looking at taking some early wickets.

Coming to bat first, Mumbai Indians did not had a good start and lost their first wicket in the form of Bhatia just for 15 runs. Hayley Mathews and Nat Sciver Brunt added 54 runs for the second wicket. 

MI opener Mathews batting very well and scored 47 runs in 31 balls at a strike rate of 151. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur came on the field after the second wicket and  scored 65 runs in just 30 balls, playing a very good innings with a strike rate of 216. 

Batting well in the death overs, Kerr also added 45 runs in 24 balls to take his team's score to 207 runs.



Chasing 207 runs, GG's Team was reduced to just 64 runs. GG got the first blow in the form of Harleen Deol for just 1 run. 

GG Captain Mooney Beth couldn’t open the account for the match as she injured herself in the first over of their batting.

Not a single batsman from Gujarat could perform well and Gujarat's wickets kept falling one after the other, due to which the Gujarat team got reduced to just 64 runs. 

Hemlata was the only batsman who scored 29 runs in 23 balls. None of the other batsmen even crossed the 10 mark. GG suffered a humiliating defeat in their very first match.

Saika Ishaque bowled very well taking 4 wickets and Nat Sciver and Kerr took two wickets each.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was adjudged player of the match.

Harmanpreet Kaur hit the first century of the league. Kaur hit the fourteen boundaries and scored 65 runs. MI total scored 207 runs in 20 overs while GG in 15.1 overs scored just 64 runs and whole Team returned to pavilion. Captain Mooney Beth of GG couldn’t open the account for the match as she injured herself in the first over of their batting.
